Posted by Rob Ellis on July 7, 2014

Fred Lewis, a Florida Supreme Court Justice and Annette Boyd Pitts, the executive director of the Florida Law Related Education Association, both won the National Center for State Court’s Sandra Day O’Connor Award for the Advancement of Civics in Education. This prestigious award is founded on the development of the Florida Justice Teaching Program.

Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'ConnorDeveloped in 2006, the Florida Justice Teaching Program has trained more than 4,000 judges and lawyers to teach civics lessons to middle and high school students in Florida.

Many attorneys and judges are proud to serve within this program and bring Florida justice teachings to the students in Jacksonville, Florida and the surrounding areas. These highly trained justice professionals deliver powerful presentations explaining in detail constitutional rights and the like that prompt students to ask questions to better develop their understanding of the U.S. and Florida Constitutions.

Serving in the Florida Justice Teaching Program is a valuable experience for both teachers and students alike. The program will continue to expand to more schools in the coming years.
